Salvador Rueda is an urban ecologist. He is a Biologist and a Psychologist, and has also graduated in Environmental Engineering and in Energy Management. He has directed the Urban Ecology Agency since its creation in 2000 and until 2021. He is currently the President and Director of the Urban and Territorial Ecology Foundation, created by himself in 2021.

[NL] Salvador Rueda is een stedenbouwkundige ecoloog. Hij is bioloog en psycholoog, en heeft ook een diploma in milieu-engineering en energiebeheer. Hij heeft tot 2021 het agentschap voor stedelijke ecologie geleid sinds de oprichting ervan in 2000. Momenteel is hij voorzitter en directeur van de Stichting Stedelijke en Territoriale Ecologie, door hemzelf opgericht in 2021.

Salvador Rueda has conceived the Ecosystemic Urbanism and the “superblock” concept. He has developed applied research projects in the fields of urban planning, mobility, public space, urban metabolism, biodiversity, economic development and social cohesion. He is the author of several books, among them: Urban Ecology, Ecosystemic Urbanism, Green Book on the Urban Environment, Barcelona a compact and complex Mediterranean city, Methodological guide for the calculation of urban planning indicators with ecological bases, or Regenerating the Cerdà Plan: From Cerdà’s Block to the Ecosistemic Urbanism Superblock.

[NL] Salvador Rueda is de bedenker van Ecosystemic Urbanism en het "superblock" concept. Hij heeft toegepaste onderzoeksprojecten ontwikkeld op het gebied van stadsplanning, mobiliteit, openbare ruimte, stedelijk metabolisme, biodiversiteit, economische ontwikkeling en sociale cohesie. Hij is de auteur van verschillende boeken, waaronder: Urban Ecology, Ecosystemic Urbanism, Green Book on the Urban Environment, Barcelona a compact and complex Mediterranean city, Methodological guide for the calculation of urban planning indicators with ecological bases, of Regenerating the Cerdà Plan: Van Cerdà's blok naar het ecosystemische superblok van de stedenbouw.

He will present us the NEW MODEL OF MOBILITY AND PUBLIC SPACE BASED ON SUPERILLES.
It establishes a network that integrates, in its perimeter, the circulation of all modes of transport and seeks, first of all, to release the maximum surface of public space (70%) dedicated to the traffic and, at the same time , ensure the functionality of the system (only 15% of cars in circulation are reduced and the same traffic service is obtained). Secondly, it seeks to minimize the dysfunctions generated by the current mobility model: soil occupancy, CO2 emissions, noise, air pollution, accidents, etc.

[NL] Hij zal ons het NIEUWE MODEL VAN MOBILITEIT EN OPENBARE RUIMTE GEBASEERD OP SUPERILLES voorstellen. Het stelt een netwerk voor dat in zijn omtrek de circulatie van alle modi integreert en dat er in de eerste plaats naar streeft de maximale oppervlakte van de openbare ruimte (70%) vrij te maken van verkeer en tegelijkertijd de functionaliteit van het systeem te verzekeren (slechts 15% blijft behouden voor doorrijdend auto's en dezelfde bereikbaarheid blijft gewaarborgd). Ten tweede tracht het de disfuncties die door het huidige mobiliteitsmodel worden gegenereerd tot een minimum te beperken: bodembezetting, CO2-uitstoot, lawaai, luchtvervuiling, ongevallen, enz.
